AMBLEMA (EMBLEMA)

1. Mozaikten yapılan ve daha sonra daha kaba mozaik işçiliğinden oluşan desenli bir zemine yerleştirilen bir tasarım. 2. (Genellikle pi.) 17. yüzyılın Hollanda tarzı sahnelerinde ve natürmortlarında bulunan alegorik ve sembolik nesneler ve eylemler. Örneğin bir çiçeği koklayan bir kadın, koku alma duyusunun bir alegorisi olabilir ve muhtemelen Beş Duyuyu tasvir eden bir diziye ait olabilir. Vanitas olarak bilinen natürmort türü genellikle bu tür birçok sembolle doludur.

Emblema (Gk, pi. emblemata) 1. A design made in mosaic and then inserted into a patterned floor of coarser mosaic work. 2. (Usually pi.) The allegorical and symbolic objects and actions found in Dutch genre scenes and still-lifes of the 17th c. A woman smelling a flower, for example, may be an allegory of the sense of smell, and is likely to belong to a series depicting the Five Senses. The type of still-life known as a vanitas is generally packed with many such symbols.
