KONTRAST (CONTRAPOSSO)

Vücudun çeşitli kısımlarını merkezi bir dikey eksen etrafında eğik olarak dengelenecek şekilde temsil etmenin bir yolu: örneğin, gövdenin üst kısmı bir yönde bükülürken alt kısmı ters yönde kıvrılır. İlk olarak klasik Yunan heykeltıraşları tarafından sertlikten kaçınmanın bir yolu olarak geliştirilen contrapposto, aşırı uçlara taşındı.

Contrapposto (It. 'placed opposite') A way of representing the various parts of the body so that they are obliquely balanced around a central vertical axis: for example, the upper portion of the torso will twist in one direction, while the lower part twists in the opposing direction. First developed by classical Greek sculptors as a means of avoiding stiffness, contrapposto was carried to extremes.
