ÖLÜM DANSI (DANCE OF DEATH)

Ölüm Dansı Hem yaşayanların hem de ölülerin yer aldığı alegorik bir geçit töreni veya dansın temsili. Katılımcılar genellikle Papa'dan aşağıya doğru hiyerarşik bir sırayla düzenlenir. Ölüm Dansı, Orta Çağ'ın sonlarında duvar resminin konusu olarak popüler hale geldi; bilinen ilk örnek (Paris'teki Kutsal Masumlar mezarlığının manastırında), 1424-25'ten kalmadır. Matbaanın icadından sonra konu kısa sürede BASKI yapımcıları tarafından ele alındı. Bu tür baskıların en ünlü serisi Hans Holbein'inkidir, ancak pek çok sanatçı bu temayı ele almıştır. Dance ofDeath A representation of an allegorical procession or dance in which both the living and the dead take part. The participants are usually arranged in hierarchical sequence, from the Pope downwards. The Dance of Death became popular as a subject for mural painting in the late Middle Ages, the first known example (in the cloister of the cemetery of the Holy Innocents in Paris) dating from 1424-25. After the invention of printing the subject was soon taken up by PRiNT-makers. The most famous series of such prints is the one by Hans Holbein, but many other artists have tackled the theme. Synonym: danse macabre.
