FAUVES

Fauves (Fr. 'vahşi hayvanlar') Fransız sanat eleştirmeni Louis Vauxcelles tarafından ilk kez 1905'te Paris salon d'automne'de bir araya gelen bir grup genç ressamı tanımlamak için icat edilen terim. gerçekçi renkler ve cesur, görünüşe göre kaba bir çizim. Fauves (Fr. 'wild beasts') Term coined by the French art critic Louis Vauxcelles to describe a group of young painters who showed together for the first time in the Paris salon d'automneof 1905. Their nickname came from their fierce, non-realistic colour and bold, apparently crude draughtsmanship. Among the original members of the group were Matisse (generally regarded as the leader), Derain, Marquet andVlaminck. The term was later applied to other artists such as Rouault and Van Dongen.Although the Fauves owed much to the earlier post-impressionists such as Gauguin and VanGogh, 1905 is generally regarded as the date ofinception of the Modern Movement (see modernism).
