Görkemli Tarz 18. yüzyılın önde gelenlerinin savunduğu yüce ve iddialı tarih resmi üslubu. sanat teorisyenleri, özellikle de Sir Joshua Reynolds'un üçüncü ve dördüncü Söylevleri'nde (1770, 1771). Çağdaş sanatın hem antik sanatın hem de İtalyan rönesansının büyük ustalarının etkisini özümsemeye çalışması gerektiğini savundu. Grand Manner The elevated and ambitious style ofhistory painting advocated by leading i8th-c. art theorists, notably by Sir JoshuaReynolds in his third and fourth Discourses (1770, 1 771). He urged that contemporary art should try to absorb the influence both of the antique and of the great masters of the Italian renaissance. His theory also extended to portraiture— e.g., in his own work, the depiction of aristocratic grandees in poses borrowed from famous classical statues, such as the Apollo Belvedere.
