Kalathos (Gk) 1. A wicker basket, or a representation of one in some other material such as stone. According to legend, the Corinthian capital was based on an acanthus growing in a kalathos. (orders of architecture*.) In Christian times, because baskets were used for bread, the kalathos became a symbol of the Eucharist. 2. A type of krater, bucket-shaped and without handles, (greek vases)
