Transition (Fr.) The intermediary style be- tween rococo and the neo-classicism of Louis XVI. It began to establish itself shortly before 1760. It mingled a more disciplined and chas- tened version of Rococo forms with orna- mental details (such as the acanthus) bor- rowed from the classical repertoire.
