Altını (veya bazen gümüşü) siyah bir kakma ile süsleme tekniği. Tasarım ilk olarak metale kazınıyor ve oyuklar, toz bakır, gümüş, kurşun ve kükürtten oluşan bir alaşımla ve akı ilavesiyle dolduruluyor. Daha sonra tamamı alaşımın erime noktasına (altınınkinden daha düşük) kadar ısıtılır, böylece akıp oluklara karışır. Nesne nihayet parlatılır.

Niello (It., fr. Lat. nigellus, 'black') A techniqueof decorating gold (or occasionally silver) witha black inlay. The design is first engraved in the metal, and the grooves filled with an alloyof powdered copper, silver, lead and sulphur, with the addition of flux. The whole is then heated to the melting point of the alloy (lowerthan that of gold), so that it runs and becomesfused into the grooves. The object is finally polished.
