Orphism, Orphic Cubism Orphism was a word coined in 19 13 by Guillaume Apollinaire to describe a type of entirely abstract art with cubist affinities - an art which tried to create an independent reality of its own. He saw RobertDelaunay as the chief representative of this tendency. Delaunay himself adopted the label, but later modified it to mean an abstract or even semi-abstract art based on the analysis of the movement of light, and therefore a descendant of impressionism.
